Welcome to The Parliament of the World's Religion WEBCAST
In December, more than 6,000 people converged on Cape Town, South Africa for the 1999 Parliament of the World's Religions. At this remarkable gathering, some of the world's most religious and spiritual representatives joined with participants from more than 100 countries for a week of dialogue and celebration.
As part of the extensive array of activities, a unique initiative of the 1999 Parliament was the Gifts of Service to the World. This programme recognized key projects of service to the human community and the earth and served as examples of the creative, constructive and transforming power of organizations and communities that choose to make a difference.
The Word Foundation was presented to the 1999 World Parliament of Religions on Wednesday, 1 December 1999 as one of the Gifts of Service to the World. The presentation was made by The Very Reverend James Parks Morton, director of the Interfaith Center of New York and Chair of the Word Foundation.
